Treatment needs for sexually maladaptive behaviors on the rise. With the number of incidents involving juvenile sexual offenses and other maladaptive sexual behaviors rising nationally, new light is being shed on the growing need for effective interventions for this special population of at-risk youth. Behavioral health care providers who lack the specialized training and skills necessary to accurately respond to the sexual abuse, trauma, and conduct problems these youth face often find them difficult to treat. Formal credentialing as a result of specialized training demonstrates minimal competencies and promotes the utilization of best treatment practices. A national trend towards standardized intervention is sweeping the nation’s behavioral health, legal and insurance industries. Likewise, recent activities in the state of Indiana indicate a positive move toward mandated certification of behavioral health professionals who provide therapeutic intervention to the juvenile sexual offender population. IN-AJSOP offers four levels of credentials and certification several times each year. |
